چکیده

Consider any discrete memoryless channel (DMC) with arbitrarily but finite input and output alphabets X , Y respectively. Then, for any capacity achieving input distribution all symbols occur less frequently than 1 − 1 e . That is, max x∈X P (x) < 1− 1 e where P ∗(x) is a capacity achieving input distribution. Also, we provide sufficient conditions for which a discrete distribution can be a capacity achieving input distribution for some DMC channel. Lastly, we show that there is no similar restriction on the capacity achieving output distribution. Index Terms Channel Capacity, Discrete Memoryless Channels (DMC).

Information Theory and Coding EPFL Winter Semester 2008 / 2009

Our experience with data compression so far has been of the following type: We are given the statistical description of an information source, we then try to design a system which will represent the data produced by this source efficiently. In this note we depart from this model, and consider a method which will represent a sequence efficiently without knowing by which means the sequence was pr...

P-adic arithmetic coding

A new incremental algorithm for data compression is presented. For a sequence of input symbols algorithm incrementally constructs a p-adic integer number as an output. Decoding process starts with less significant part of a p-adic integer and incrementally reconstructs a sequence of input symbols. Algorithm is based on certain features of p-adic numbers and p-adic norm. p-adic coding algorithm ...

درخت نقشی بر فرش رویی بر عرش

Since ancient times, “Tree” has been the focus of attention as a symbol, in works of art. In Mesopotamia and later in Iran, this symbol was known as a holy tree or tree of life as early as 3500 BC, and was delineated in different shapes. After the advent of Islam, this symbol prevailed in works of art; However, no longer as a mythological holy tree but rather standing for heavenly b...

English Vocabulary for Equine Veterans: How Different from GSL and AWL Words

ESP students are usually suggested to master general and academic word lists such as Wests’ (1953) General Service List (GSL) and Coxhead’s (2000) Academic Word List (AWL) to be able to read their academic texts. However, it seems that university students may not need to learn all the words in the two lists as some words in the lists are of less frequency in academic texts. Moreover, there are ...

Turing Machines for Dummies - Why Representations Do Matter

Various methods exists in the literature for denoting the configuration of a Turing Machine. A key difference is whether the head position is indicated by some integer (mathematical representation) or is specified by writing the machine state next to the scanned tape symbol (intrinsic representation). From a mathematical perspective this will make no difference. However, since Turing Machines a...
